Your center is unreliable.

Dear Editor,

In regards to Ms V.R. Sample's letter you published in your March 14th edition, I need to address her statement that her estimate of the center is accurate. Every student of statistics knows that her kind is notoriously biased. That kind of sick reasoning has caused all kinds on inaccurate estimates in the name of small standard deviations. Just because she has the numbers behind her doesn't mean the statistics are accurate. Any standard error that is calculated isn't worth the energy used to crunch it. Sampling distributions need to be left to those samples that are truly random. Bigger isn't necessarily better. As long as the sample size is greater than 30, we can believe that the great Central Limit Theorem will control all outcomes and we can be confident that our estimates will be valid.

Yours,

The Society for Simple Random Samples.
